There is no requirement that you have legal counsel in your case.  In fact, there are only certain instances where you have a right to an attorney in a family law-related case (e.g., Protection from Abuse actions, some support actions and termination of parental rights proceedings).  However, it is very important to know your legal rights, so you will be able to make informed choices.  We provide advocacy with compassion in guiding you through the legal process.  See our resources below for additional information.

Yes, we will use our best efforts to secure a settlement that works for your particular situation.  In fact, we strive to negotiate out-of-court resolutions to help ensure you have more control over the important aspects of your life, rather than leaving it up to the court to decide what is best for you and/or your children.  However, there are times when court intervention is needed to help move things to the road to settlement or to resolve an impasse.

Because of the unpredictable nature of family law cases, we cannot calculate exactly how much the case will cost.  Factors such as cooperation (or lack thereof) of the parties and opposing counsel and complexity of the case can prolong negotiations and create the need for court appearances.  We try to approach each case with the goal of moving it to a resolution that works best for our clients and is cost-efficient.  We can discuss the particular aspects of your individual case at our  consultations, where we discuss engagement of legal services in further depth.
